Benefits of participating

Design Youth-Led Projects

You will have the opportunity to work individually or with peers to design a project based off your idea or creative gifts

Receive $1000, $2500, or $3000 Microgrants

All participants are eligible for a microgrant to have their project or idea funded once application is submitted

120 Volunteering Hours

All participants will be entitled to 120 hours record of volunteering. This can be used on a resume and as work experience

Reference Letter and Certificate of Completion

Upon program completion, all participants receive a letter from the Government of Canada

Intercultural Youth Microgrants Services Corps (IYMSCorps) is a community needs-driven, skills enhancement and volunteering program to help youth located in British Columbia to gain valuable foundational and transferable skills through designing youth-led and youth-driven community-based projects.

The goal is to find sustainable and innovative solutions to address emerging community needs not limited to but including the identified five service themes: Reconciliation, Building an Inclusive Canada, Environment, Promoting Civic and Democratic Engagement, and Innovation. 
The program’s participants will design and lead projects to address the community needs. Project examples include: helping newcomers to the community, hosting sports events within the community, organizing food drives for homeless shelters, planting gardens within the community, etc. Participants are encouraged to come up with their own creative ideas that will make a difference within the community and follow one of the aforementioned themes.
To support the participants in the implementation of their projects, IYMSCorps will distribute grants of either $1,000, $2,500 or $3,000 (depending on the project’s needs) to cover all the expenses.
Upon the completion of their project, participants will get 120 volunteering hours along with a Certificate of Completion and a reference letter. Designing and implementing their own project, supported by a Certificate of Completion and a reference letter which will further enhance the participants career opportunities.

There will be a graduation ceremony held for all participants.
